America the WEAK!!

Americans have tricked themselves into believing that this is truly the "land of the free" when, in reality, this is very much a slave nation. Nietzsche would be so displeased with the refusal to discharge the force of our wills. This is sad. Let's start with something simple... We've already discussed in class how democracy is a tragedy. Why on earth would we have a governing system in which we let the weak voice their opinions on who should govern the people. The weak should have no say so whatsoever because they hold no value in the political system. I'm sure that Nietzsche would say the weak in America view the strong as evil and therefore want to share the same powers that they hold. Yet, through these actions (of voting), the weak are only being "No-Sayers" to their own lives.
Furthermore, America insists on making religion a necessity when it is really unnecessary. We have composed an entire nation and expect of them to pledge allegiance to a flimsy flag and admit that our nation is indeed "under God." Well, we all see the wrong in this statement. If it is really the case that our nation is "under God," then it is also the case, according to Nietzsche, that our nation is weak and refuses to take responsibility for the actions of its own people. Nietzsche would say that only when Americans realize that, in depending on God as the foundation of the nation, they are hindering themselves from being strong, courageous, yes-sayers who can discharge the force of their wills by creating their own values, can they indeed become free and noble spirits.
I will give one more example of how America, the nation, is a faulty and ridiculous nation. We allow the unemployed to come up with things like "jobs acts" in order to speak up for themselves and to actually propose these things to the government. Now, the president is actually trying to create more jobs for those who have no right to have them. If it is the case that someone is unemployed, then it is what it is. This is the situation of that person's life and they should be able to accept their life and be a yes-sayer instead of protesting. Now, if they happen to be offered a job, then that's a different story. Let's take a group of homeless people for example. It is the case that these homeless people belong to the homeless category and that they are not able to discharge the force of their will in order to get a job. Instead of making those with a job the evil and trying to put themselves on the same level with the employed, they should accept their lives and try to move away from this "slave mentality" of our nation as a whole and become of the noble breed.

Whew!! Nietzsche is so silly!!

  1. Ivy, this is great. I think you successfully show that Nietzsche would find America incredibly weak. I like how you prove not only that Nietzsche would have problem with our democracy but how he would have problems with our nation revolving on religion and having our pledge of allegiance say "under god." I have nothing but great respect for this blog post. I think you did a great job showing how Nietzsche would scoff at our "terrible nation."

  2. Ivy,

This is one bold blogspot. I think you are making a really interesting point with regard to the no sayers that are part of the democratic system in America. Do you think it would be equally as dangerous to let yes sayers be the only class that makes decisions for this country without any balance from the no- sayers? The best part of your blog that I really liked is your analogy with the Pledge and regarding the phrase "Under God." That is a great observation- are we a theistic country because we do not want to take responsible for our actions because of our no saying, weak mentality?

  3. Manali,

That's EXACTLY what I think. (In regards to your last question). You asked do I think that it would be equally as dangerous to let yes sayers be the only class that makes decisions for this country and I absolutely think that it would be just as dangerous. We can't just have people who say yes to their lives, no matter how awful they are or what bad things they're planning in control of the country without the balance of those who aren't afraid to say no. But, of course, according to Nietzsche, it probably wouldn't be as dangerous. So...I don't know.
